Julian Palmer has been deeply exploring psychoactive plants for the last 15 years and has spoken at conferences in Australia and overseas on this subject over the last ten years. He has just released his book, Articulations: On The Utilisation and Meanings of Psychedelics. He was also the primary organiser of the Khanyisa Psychoactive Plant Conference in October 2013, the first conference of its type in Africa.
Julian Palmer will be presenting: Non-Traditional Medicine Work
In this talk, Julian will discuss the future of the work with shamanic medicine, in a global context. He will discuss modern day non-traditional contexts and containers for plant medicine work, specifically asking ask, ‘what is tradition, and why do westerners desire it?’ Julian will put forward the idea that ‘we are the culture creators, although non-traditionally based plant medicine is a practice in a tradition in and of itself. Julian will also explore the challenge of competition between medicine practitioners, and the problems this can cause.
